Trivia: What classic fictional detective famously wore a deerstalker hat?
Sherlock Holmes
C. Auguste Dupin
Hercule Poirot
Miss Marple
The correct answer is Sherlock Holmes
So why is this answer correct? : Images of Sherlock Holmes often feature his iconic deerstalker hat. Surprisingly, however, the hat is never mentioned in the books. The deerstalker is a hunting cap, so it doesn’t exactly fit with Holmes’ city locale. But the books’ illustrator, Sidney Paget, chose to give Holmes the hat and a cape in an illustration for publication in “The Strand Magazine,” and the look stuck. After the illustration hit newsstands, the hat and cape became synonymous with the classic detective image.
