In 1970, Casey Kasem created the nationally syndicated radio program American Top 40. On the show, Kasem counted down the most popular songs in the country until he hit No. 1. At one point, the show was broadcast to more than 1,000 radio stations worldwide, with Kasem becoming an icon along the way. Also emerging from the show was what would become Kasem’s signature sign-off message: “Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars.” The legendary broadcast personality died at the age of 82 from complications of Lewy body disease in 2014.
