The Queen frontman was born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar’s Government Hospital in 1946. His family lived in Stone Town, which is known as the historic sector of Zanzibar City. Mercury spent the first few years of his life being taught by Anglican nuns at the Zanzibar Missionary School, but was sent to India for schooling at the age of eight. He returned to Zanzibar in 1963 after it gained independence from England, but he and his family fled the following year.
