Four years later, during the Chinese Revolution, he became the last emperor of the nearly 2,200-year-old Chinese imperial system. In 1924, he left Beijing for Japan, and from 1934 to 1945, he was emperor of the Japanese puppet state of Manchukuo. At the end of the war, he was taken prisoner by the Russians.
