days off. In 1943, when the “Adventures of Superman” radio show was
just as popular as the comics themselves, producing a radio show
required almost an entire day and lots of effort and energy from the
voice actors. Kryptonite was originally introduced into the Man of
Steel’s universe as a way to incapacitate Superman on the show, which
provided a convenient way for actors to take time off. Kryptonite wasn’t
introduced into the Superman comics until 1949, and it wasn’t until
1951 that it was written with the signature green color most people now
associate with Superman’s vulnerability.
