Some people believe that to truly understand and appreciate abstract art one must
study its creator. This belief assumes the artist’s life experiences were expressed on the
canvas. The main conjecture of this theory is that to understand these experiences is to
understand the prototypical art. A biographical approach expects people to see and
experience the piece through the artist’s eyes. Art, however, is meant to be experienced
by the individual—each person’s reaction should be built on his or her own experiences.
