Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen, and was her first published novle when it appeared in 1811 under the pseudonym “By A Lady”. Sense and Sensibility was a success upon publication, and it later was adapted for film, stage, and television. Her next book, Pride and Prejudice, appeared in January 1813, with the inscription “By the author of Sense and Sensibility” on the titlepage. The secret of her authorship was only made public after her death in 1817. None of her books appeared with her name on the titlepage during her lifetime.
