Trivia: What country is often credited as the first to make wine?
Slovakia
Armenia
Georgia
Afghanistan
The correct answer is Georgia
So why is this answer correct? : Georgia is known as the “cradle of wine” because around 6000 BCE, the people living in the South Caucasus began burying grape juice in vessels underground. These earthenware vessels, known as “qvevri,” could remain buried for up to 50 years. Although Georgia is a small producer today, some wineries still use the qvevri as part of the winemaking process, and the vessels have become a symbol of the country’s boozy history.
