Trivia: When was the Declaration of Independence actually signed?
June 19
August 2
October 31
December 25
The correct answer is August 2
So why is this answer correct? : While the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, it wasn’t formally signed until August 2, because the process of bringing the document to life took some time. On July 5, the approved Declaration was printed and distributed to state assemblies, conventions, committees of safety, and commanding officers of the Continental troops. Two weeks later, Congress ordered the document to be engrossed — the process of writing a large document in a large hand — on parchment. Another two weeks later, on August 2, the engrossed copy was finally signed by John Hancock and other members of the Continental Congress.
