Trivia: What product was invented during an experiment to make lightweight tires?
Bubble gum
Super Glue
Nonstick pans
Kevlar
The correct answer is Kevlar
So why is this answer correct? : In 1965, DuPont chemist Stephanie Kwolek accidentally invented Kevlar. Working ahead of an expected gasoline shortage, Kwolek was in search of a lightweight material to replace heavy steel wires in car tires, thus making them lighter and requiring less fuel. What she first believed was a bad batch of dissolved fibers turned out to be the strongest textile anyone had invented to date: Kevlar. Today, the fiber is used in body armor, military clothing, helmets, cut-resistant gloves, tires, and fireproof clothing.
