Trivia: What mountain range shares a name with a well-known type of chair?
Himalayas
Adirondacks
Cascades
Andes
The correct answer is Adirondacks
So why is this answer correct? : Throughout the 19th century, tuberculosis plagued cities across America. In 1881, New York City office worker Marc Cook published the book “The Wilderness Cure” about his experience curing his tuberculosis after going to the mountains in upstate New York. The book inspired physicians to believe that fresh air was the solution, and many fled upstate to get better. At the turn of the century, “cure chairs” were invented to help those suffering from respiratory illnesses to relax while getting fresh air. The chairs were eventually renamed “Adirondack chairs” to reflect their geographic heritage.
