The Quiz: This African bush elephant is one of three recognised species of elephants. Which is the biggest?

A African bush elephant
B African forest elephant
C Asian elephant

The African bush elephant is considered the largest of the three, and therefore the largest land animal on Earth, it can weigh nearly six tonnes with a shoulder height of up to 13ft. It is slightly larger than the Asian elephant, and considerably larger than the African forest elephant.

The bush elephant is the most populous of the three species, numbering more than 300,000 (compared with about 100,000 forest elephants and 50,000 Asian elephants). But like all elephant species, the bush elephant is still considered endangered as poaching continues to drive the population downward.

The correct answer to this quiz is African bush elephant.
