So why is this answer correct? : French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten had no idea he was about to invent one of the most popular desserts of the late 20th century when he pulled his sponge cake out of the oven too early. The chocolate cake seemed baked on the outside, but when he cut into it, uncooked batter oozed out of the center. Vongerichten, who was working in New York City at the time, decided that he would begin serving this new dessert at his restaurant. Patrons loved the dish, and the treat gained the enduring nickname “lava cake.”
