Trivia: What was cotton candy called when it was introduced in 1904?
Pixie puff
Fairy floss
Cloud confection
Sweet string
The correct answer is Fairy floss
So why is this answer correct? : The confection we now know as cotton candy was first popularized more than a century ago, at the 1904 world’s fair in St. Louis, Missouri. There, a Nashville dentist and his candymaker friend showed off a machine designed “to convert ordinary granulated sugar into finely attenuated threads.” Their so-called “fairy floss” sold for 25 cents a box and was a massive hit. The name “cotton candy” was coined later by another dentist who tried to make his own version of the machine.
