Trivia: Which carnival staple debuted at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair?
Haunted house
Pendulum ride
Ferris wheel
Gravitron
The correct answer is Ferris wheel
So why is this answer correct? : Lead architect Daniel Burnham was looking for ideas to compete with the Paris World Fair’s big reveal of the Eiffel Tower in 1889, and the one he went with came from an engineer from Pittsburgh named George Ferris Jr. Ferris’ job was to inspect steel at the fair, but his most lasting contribution was the idea for a giant, spinning wheel. The original Ferris wheel was 264 feet high, and more than 1.4 million people paid 50 cents to take a spin. The wheel was eventually disassembled, only to be put back together for the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.
