Trivia: Which art-filled caves are nicknamed the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistory”?
Blue Grotto, Italy
Cave of Altamira, Spain
Lascaux, France
Fingal’s Cave, U.K.
The correct answer is Lascaux, France
So why is this answer correct? : One of the most famous collections of ancient rock art was discovered relatively recently: France’s Lascaux was found by four boys and a dog in 1940. Over a million visitors came to the Dordogne region to see the images between 1948 and 1963, when the cave closed to the public. A replica called Lascaux II was created to let people see the art up close without damaging the ancient originals, and now, only a few scientists are allowed in the original cave each year.
