In this activity, you’ll write a persuasive speech. Choose one of the following topics for your speech:
Convince your city government to build a hospital for veterans in your town.
Convince the city government to restore the veterans’ memorial in your town.
Persuade your principal to host a Veterans Day ceremony in your school.
Check with your teacher if you’d prefer to choose a different topic.
If you’d like, use the Notebook tool to draft or revise your answers.
Write an introduction paragraph for your speech.
Write the first body paragraph of your speech.

Write the second body paragraph of your speech.
Part D
Write the third body paragraph of your speech.
Part E
Write the conclusion paragraph of your speech.

What is the tone of your speech? What words and phrases did you use to achieve this tone?
Part G
Rate the quality of the organization of your speech. Use words such as strong or needs improvement. Do you need to add additional information? What is your strongest area?

Now that you’ve finished writing, it’s time to review and revise your work. When editing your speech, use this editing checklist as a guide. To record your revisions, copy three sentences in their original form, followed by their revised versions.
