Trivia: What classic has Marlon Brando claiming, “I could have been a contender”?
Mutiny on the Bounty
The Chase
On the Waterfront
The Score
The correct answer is On the Waterfront
So why is this answer correct? : The 1954 film “On the Waterfront” was the result of screenwriter Budd Schulberg’s two years researching at New York City’s Chelsea docks. Schulberg hung out there every day, talking and drinking with workers in his determination to capture their voices and stories for the screen with authenticity. Director Elia Kazan loved the taxi scene where the “contender” line occurs, but the film’s star, Marlon Brando, wasn’t sure it would work. Despite this hesitation, Brando delivered one of the most memorable lines of his career.
