Trivia: What racer was a moonshiner pardoned by Ronald Reagan?
Cale Yarborough
Lee Petty
Junior Johnson
Bill France
The correct answer is Junior Johnson
So why is this answer correct? : Stock car racing has its roots in bootlegging, and one of NASCAR’s first stars followed up his five-win rookie year in 1955 with a season primarily spent in an Ohio penitentiary. Junior Johnson’s father made moonshine, and Johnson would transport the product in a souped-up stock car. He was arrested in 1956 and spent one year in prison. After his release, Johnson went on to win 50 more races. In 1986, Reagan crossed the aisle to pardon Johnson, who was a lifelong Democrat.
